Hearst-Argyle stations to distribute news, weather, sports on YouTube
Hearst-Argyle Television, Google and YouTube this week have agreed to distribute and monetize select Hearst-Argyle TV content with Google and YouTube.
On Monday, Hearst-Argyle TV stations in five local markets, including Boston, Manchester, NH, Sacramento, Pittsburgh and Baltimore, began posting local video content to dedicated channels on YouTube.
According to Hearst-Argyle executive VP Terry Mackin, the move fits with the company’s strategy to distribute on three screens: TV, the PC and mobile phones.
The Hearst-Argyle YouTube channels will be filled with news, weather and entertainment videos as well as with original, local TV programming, such as "Chronicle," on WCVB. YouTube will also serve as a platform to support Hearst-Argyle's new digital video initiatives, including high school football, basketball and local amateur entertainment.
