The number of whole-home DVR installations is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of more than 100 percent from 2006 to 2008, according to In-Stat.
Service providers and consumers are expected to drive the growth. Whole-home DVRs and "no-new-wires" options, such as coax, enable service providers to reduce their video distribution network deployment costs while offering consumers benefits.
The resulting market for home networking-over-coax chipsets and physical layer units will grow by more than 150 percent from 2005 to 2010, according to In-Stat. The initial low-hanging fruit for whole-home DVRs are consumers who have a PVR/DVR but want to upgrade to a whole-home DVR.
