IBC commits to Amsterdam for foreseeable future
IBC will return to the RAI Center in Amsterdam next year following a review of venue options, show organizers said Oct. 15.
IBC2009 will open Sept. 10, 2009, at the RAI Center in Amsterdam with an extensive conference program, according to show organizers. The conference program will run Sept. 10-14, 2009, while the exhibition portion of the event will be held Sept. 11-15, 2009.
According to the announcement, IBC will remain at the RAI Center in Amsterdam for the foreseeable future. Following what IBC describes as “a thorough and robust review of alternative venues,” which included Barcelona, Spain, event organizers decided to remain in Amsterdam given the high degree of satisfaction among attendees and exhibitors with the venue and the “current turmoil facing the global economy,” said IBC COO Mike Crimp.
However, Barcelona remains a “serious contender for IBC’s future venue,” according to an IBC press statement.
Next year’s international event will open following one of the most successful conventions in the history of the gathering. At IBC2008, more than 1400 exhibitors presented the latest in broadcast, production, post, mobile TV, IPTV and digital signage technology.
Similarly, the 2008 conference program and technical papers may have reached their zenith to date. A special highlight of the 2008 event was a focus on 3-D stereoscopic HD production and distribution. This year’s 3-D presentation included the world’s first live international 3-D stereoscopic telecast and a presentation of “Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D” from Warner Bros International, Walden Media and New Line Cinema.
