IBC2005: SeaChange Extends MediaClient Platform to HD
SeaChange announced that its MediaClient architecture now provides HD capabilities for broadcasters. Its new 5000 series comprises its latest software-based encoders and decoders in the MediaClient line. They were demonstrated at IBC2005.
Providing what SeaChange calls a "HD triple-play" of record and playback, multi-codec support, and MXF compatibility, the new MediaClient 5110 HD Single Encoder and MediaClient 5102 HD Dual Decoder are 2RU units with Gigabit IP connectivity to centralized storage. Using the interoperability enabled by CIFS (Common Internet File Standard) and the storage capabilities of the company's MediaLibrary, the MediaClient codecs offer a modular approach for HD.
The encoders and decoders, shipping in late 2005, are compatible with existing installations and permits mixing of dozens of HD and SD channels up to 50 MB each. SeaChange says support for higher bit rates will be available in future software releases.
