The evolution of moviemaking from film to digital technology has added a new element to the creative process, namely which camera format is most appropriate for the production.
IBC2009 will present a pair of sessions that examine the criteria the American Society of Cinematographers and the British Society of Cinematographers each separately set up to assess images and compare digital motion picture cameras to one another and to film.
Scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 13, the sessions will explore both the ASC and BSC assessment programs. The aim of the sessions is to provide “the definitive opportunity to understand not just the relative merits of image capture at the leading edge, but also all the implications of workflow from raw digital camera images to finished post,” according to show organizers.
Among the scheduled speakers are freelance director of photography John Daly; Sue Gibson, president of the British Society of Cinematographers; and Joe Dunton, BSC VP. Howard Lukk, Pixar director of media systems, will moderate a closing panel discussion featuring members of both societies.
