IEEE Broadband Multimedia 2008, sponsored by the IEEE Broadcast Technology Society, is the third annual edition of this industry-oriented forum for the presentation and exchange of technical advances in the rapidly converging areas of multimedia broadcasting, telecommunications, consumer electronics and networking technologies. Expanded to three days for 2008, the symposium will bring together engineers, researchers and service providers from around the world to present and discuss state-of-the-art research results and challenges in the application and implementation of broadband multimedia systems — both wireline and wireless.
This year, contributions on IPTV standardization issues, and on various broadcast-overlay, cellular and broadband wireless technologies — such as DVB-H, FLO, ATSC-M/H, DMB, MBMS and WiMAX — are being requested. The symposium is also seeking technical papers on multimedia systems, transmission technology and multimedia signal processing. Proposals for extended tutorials are also being accepted, as are proposals for panels on technology, application, business and policy-related issues and opportunities for the broadband multimedia and broadcasting industry. Abstract submissions are due Oct. 1.
