IFA 2006: Daewoo, Metalink Team Up for Wireless HD
Metalink, a provider of wireless and wireline broadband configurations, said this week it will join with Daewoo Electronics to incorporate Metalink's WlanPlus chipset into Daewoo's next-gen set-top box. The result: delivery of wireless multiple HD video streams.
A streaming demo, based on Metalink's 802.11n draft compliant chipset, will be presented for the first time by both firms at IFA 2006 in Berlin in September.
Metalink's WlanPlus chipset series is targeted mainly for consumer electronics products by its support for all the optional specifications of the 802.11n standard required to enable HD video streaming.
Metalink's WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) technology is already incorporated in a variety of HD video streaming applications such as HD monitors, cable set-top boxes, media adaptors and DVR units.
