IFA: Philips Intros Wireless HD Link

Philips this week introduced its Wireless HDTV Link at IFA which connects to a TV set (to set-top box) and various AV components without any required wiring.

Philip's new wireless component premiered at IFA 2010 in Berlin, which ends today (Sept. 4-9).

The wireless HDMI connection is designed to permit a broader range of location options for a large flat-screen — allowing a "hide-away" scenario for a STB within a range of up to 20 meters range. Philips said the wireless configuration will still provide a 1080p signal at maximum video quality as a wired system.

Wireless HDTV Link consists of two HDMI connections (as well as two component connections), to permit relatively fast and easly switching between the television, DVD or Blu-ray player, and a game console without having to change cables and/or plugs.

Philips, which is not the first-to-market with a wireless scheme for an HD system, said it has overcome the tendency of other wireless devices to degrade video/audio quality — especially at 1080p and 1080i levels.
