Ikegami showed a new 4M/E production switcher, the HSS-3000, which features 96 inputs, 64 outputs and four keys per M/E. The switcher supports both HD and SD SDI signals. Company executives said they have been selling the switcher in Asia for two years and chose to bring it to the U.S. for the first time this year.
Ikegami also introduced its next-generation hard-disc camcorder that incorporates Avid’s DNxHD 8-bit and 10-bit compression technology to record at high-definition resolutions. Ikegami has entered into a licensing agreement with Avid to include the DNxHD technology in every camcorder. The new HD camcorder will record in multiple HD formats with the same FiledPak media as its existing SD EditCam, and supports the MXF file format.
In addition, the company showed a new high-definition digital wireless camera system, the HDL-0101, developed in cooperation with Japanese broadcaster NHK. It uses MPEG compression (selectable from 60 to 24 Mb/s) and embedded audio that can be transmitted over a 7GHz COFDM channel with an omni-directional antenna to a receive site. There is an additional 2.4GHz channel Spread Spectrum channel for talk/listen intercom, control, error correction and status feedback.
