iN Demand Launches 24-hour HDTV Channel
iN Demand plans to kick off its first HDTV channel, INHD, on Sept. 1 and may ultimately have as many as three HDTV channels showing movies, sports and general entertainment. The network has already delivered a live hi-def broadcast of the 2003 NBA All Star Game and several HD VOD movies are scheduled for the upcoming months.
At first, INHD will show 12 hours of programming repeated twice a day with other channels carrying more sports and movies to come. The content will be in 1080i, wide screen, high resolution and feature Dolby Digital 5.1 audio when available.
iN Demand maintains that its core business will remain centered on pay-per-view and VOD, but the new HD channels will not include these features. "Adding new linear channels to our product line in some respects marks a major transformation of iN Demand...," said Steve Brenner, president and CEO.
