Indonesian news channel adopts tapeless workflow

Astro Awani, Indonesia’s 24-hour news and information channel, has installed a file-based news production system based on Grass Valley technology to support its upgraded news department.

Astro Awani features a variety of local and international news and entertainment news programs distributed via satellite throughout Indonesia.

Beginning in October 2008, Grass Valley installed multiple Grass Valley Aurora Edit workstations, Aurora browse and ingest software and several K2 media clients operating on a shared-storage network. The end-to-end technology solution works in tandem with an AP ENPS newsroom computer system.

PT Adi Karya Visi (AKV), the operator of Astro Awani’s production department, now has a virtually tapeless news workflow in place that helps get program segments to air faster and has allowed the same staff to produce more content on a daily basis. Grass Valley engineers helped train AKV employees and ensure system compatibility with other third-party products in use.
