Inside the Audio of 'Stranger Things'

STUDIO CITY, CALIF.—The hit Netflix original series “Stranger Things” is a call back to many of the classic sci-fi and horror films of the 1980s, including “E.T.,” “Close Encounters” and “The Goonies,” but creating the sound of the show was less reliant on past influences. At a meeting of the AES L.A. and SMPTE Hollywood sections, sound designers from the show shared their insights into how they created the sound of the show’s monster and other challenges.
