Intelsat inks TVNZ links

What a difference “privatization” makes. Intelsat arrived at IBC on the heels of a unique agreement with TVNZ Satellite Services to launch a new alliance service aimed at providing enhanced occasional use video links to broadcast customers.

This alliance brings together the TVNZ broadcast programming expertise and the Intelsat global network of satellite and terrestrial infrastructure. According to Malcolm Campbell, vice president, Media & Entertainment and Key Account Sales for Intelsat, this arrangement would not have been possible prior to the company’s privatization.

For TVNZ, the agreement completely changes the business model for occasional services. Specifically, the portfolio of services will offer customers comprehensive choice in global occasional use satellite distribution and access to television production and packaging services. Event management, host broadcast services, and on-air enhancement products are also part of the expanded offerings.

Targeted to serve the news, sports and special events needs of the international television broadcast community, the alliance will combine the assets of both companies to better benefit customers, Campbell points out.

In addition to its global network of ground resources, Intelsat will contribute dedicated capacity on eight of its satellites with additional capacity available, he adds. TVNZ will contribute occasional use services and television broadcast expertise.

Will there be other broadcast alliances? Campbell says other deals would not be necessary -this one is already global.
