Iowa Public Broadcasting Gets $47,000 Federal Grant
WASHINGTON: Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) secured a $47,000 grant from the Commerce Department for the Iowa Public Broadcasting Board in Des Moines. The money was released through the Public Telecommunications Facilities Program, which provides matching grants for public broadcasters and education networks.
The funds will be used to buy “help purchase and install digital closed captioning equipment for KDIN-DT in Des Moines for local broadcasts and programs distributed over the statewide network,” Grassley’s office said in a statement.
The grant represented a small fraction of federal moneys Grassley obtained recently for the state. $9.6 million was designated for Iowa earlier this month for disaster recovery from the devastation of floods and severe weather last year. The Senator’s scores for Iowa are outlined on his Web site.
