IPTV subscriptions worldwide grow 179 percent, says DSL Forum
The number of people worldwide using IPTV services grew 179 percent in the 12-month period ending June 23, 2007, according to statistics released at the Broadband World Forum Europe in Berlin.
The DSL Forum said Oct. 8 its new research it commissioned, conducted by industry analyst Point Topic, found that 8 million people are connected to IPTV services. Europe added more than 3 million subscribers during the period, a 231 percent increase. As of June 30, nearly 5 million Europeans subscribed to IPTV.
The DSL Forum also released historical figures tracking IPTV subscriber growth that compared the first halves of 2005, 2006 and 2007 by region. Those subscriber figures indicated:
