ITU recognizes T-DMB as global mobile TV standard
The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has recognized the T-DMB mobile multimedia technology as a standard, a recent article in the “Korea Times” has reported.
According to the article, the ITU approved a bill on December 14 confirming T-DMB and three other standards — MediaFLO, DVB-H, and One Seg (ISDB-T) — as global standards for mobile video and audio broadcasting. The ITU has not yet made any public announcements about the approval.
T-DMB is the terrestrial version of the Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB) system originally developed in South Korea as an offshoot of the Eureka 147 Digital Audio Broadcasting (DAB) system. It is a digital radio transmission system for sending multimedia content, including television signals, to mobile devices. The other version of it, S-DMB, was created for satellite transmissions. It has seen the most success in South Korea, where it has been widely deployed since 2005.
