Japan Funds Peruvian SBTVD Testing

The Web site www.convergenciadigital.com.br reports that Peru will test the Japanese-Brazilian SBTVD terrestrial DTV system in March 2010 thanks to $4 million in funding from Japan. The money will be used to purchase equipment and transmitters.

A Japanese expert plans to visit Peru this month to train technicians to install SBTVD facilities.

Luis Cuba, the deputy minister of communications in Peru, observed that his country was the first country outside Brazil to adopt SBTVD.

The article noted that when the agreement was signed between Brazil and Peru, it was reported that Brazilian companies could invest up to US$100 million in Peru.
