Circle Surround encoders allow audio engineers to compress up to 6.1 channels of discrete audio for distribution or broadcast over existing two-channel carriers.
Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS), a major television station in Japan, recently produced a live broadcast of the Yomiuri Giants vs. Hanshin Tigers baseball game in SRS Circle Surround 5.1.
The game was held last month in Koshien Stadium, Hyogo Prefecture, Japan, and was broadcast throughout Japan via the 28 national network stations of Tokyo Broadcasting System.
Circle Surround (CS) technology allows audio engineers to encode up to 5.1 channels of discrete audio for distribution or broadcast over existing two-channel carriers such as SD and HD television, analog and digital radio, streaming media, CDs and VHS tapes.
SRS CS encoding is backward compatible with all playback systems, including mono and stereo formats. Listeners of the MBS broadcasts who have a Circle Surround or other matrix surround decoder installed, heard 5.1 surround sound, while those listening over regular two-speaker stereo systems heard the broadcast in enhanced stereo.
