JVC and Globalstor Create Digital Automated Storage Platform
Globalstor Data Corp. and JVC Digital Storage Systems have combined JVC's line of DVD/CD MC-8000 Series automated libraries and Globalstor's range of InfinAttach NAS (network-attached storage) Servers. The integrated system will provide users with an automated storage platform that has high scalability, open architecture, broad media compatibility and no per-slot charges. The platform is designed to offer organizations vast digital storage capacity without the worry that it will be outgrown in the near future.
Globalstor's InfinAttach series uses embedded NT technology to create an open architecture with strong scalability and application flexibility. The server includes a 100-GB hard drive, a Pentium III 900 CPU (minimum), 256 MB RAM, dual 10/100 Network interface and preloaded library management software. It also has two field-upgradable expansion slots, which can support 90 SCSI devices. The slots can also be used for Fibre Channel support and/or Gigabit Ethernet cards.
JVC's MC-8000 Series of Libraries uses industry-standard removable media such as CDs and DVDs. It incorporates a high-speed disc changer and flip mechanism so users can take advantage of dual-sided media for doubled storage capacities through 5.6 TB without increasing physical space used. It is designed for document imaging, video content archives, digital audio/video storage and other uses.
