JVC to Debut HD Encoder
At NAB, JVC will introduce the HDTVxpress Compressor, an HDTV real-time encoder PCI board based on LSI Logic's DoMiNo network media processing architecture. The compact board targets professional video servers, surveillance and DVD authoring that would benefit from a smaller, PC-environment encoding system.
The HDTVxpress Compressor board, which lets users compress HDTV-level, high-res content in real time on a Windows 2000-based PC, is an industry first, according to JVC, which notes that typical professional HDTV encoders come in a stand-alone rack mount, difficult to integrate with PC applications.
The encoder board includes an HD-SDI input and a DVB-ASI output, supports real-time MPEG-2 encoding and provides video compression for a range of formats. The DoMiNo architecture is capable of 4:2:2 LGOP encoding, as well as audio compression.
