KABB-TV uses Beat the Traffic to ease San Antonians’ commute
San Antonio drivers lose more than 30 million hours a year because of traffic, according to the Texas Transportation Institute.
KABB-TV Fox 29 has begun helping those drivers plan their commutes and reduce the time they’re stuck in traffic using its new Beat the Traffic reporting system. The station is using Beat the Traffic’s technology to create animated 3-D traffic maps showing real-time traffic speeds, incidents and travel times during traffic segments on its “Fox News First” morning show. The same maps and information are available on the station’s Web site.
Easy-to-understand maps, icons and real-time traffic speeds provide a high-impact overview of regional road conditions, while allowing station reporters to fly into traffic hotspots or highlight late-breaking news.
The Beat the Traffic system lets the station produce dynamic, high-value traffic segments that give viewers the information they need to make smart decisions, such as what time to leave or what route to take, said KABB-TV news director Greg Koelfgen.
