KAYU-TV a Fox affiliate in Spokane, Wash., has selected a 360 Systems Image Server to deploy an additional play-out channel on some of its DTV sub-channels.
In reviewing the existing master control infrastructure, Ron Sweatte, director of engineering and IT, Northwest Broadcasting realized that building out another programming channel would be time-consuming and expensive. He said the Image Server kept the cost in check because the product can be "taken out of the box and put to work without expensive factory commissioning or a long training program." Sweatte oversees six stations in Washington and Oregon.
"Once video services and GPI/Os were connected, and commercials, IDs and promos ingested, we set up the system log, placed the system on the air, and it has worked flawlessly since. Network triggers now run the system," Sweatte said. The new digital sub-channel is the Tube Music Network.
The Image Server worked so well that Sweatte deployed a second system--using a multiformat Image Server--at KMVU in Medford, Ore.
360 Systems' new multiformat Image Server combines MPEG-2, DV, and TARGA graphics in one versatile box. The Image Server product line was first introduced in 2003.
