KFDM-TV Switches to Sony XDCAM
KFDM Productions--a unit of KFDM-TV--recently switched from Sony's Betacam SP to the Sony XDCAM Professional Disk System.
The Beaumont, Texas broadcasting team produces short-form videos for local and nationwide clients and also long-form videos for corporate clients. The five-person crew uses a combination of the PDW-530 XDCAM camcorders and PDW-1500 decks, offering either DVCAM or MPEG IMX video formats.
Jeff Laird, assistant chief engineer at KFDM-TV said that clients like the easy access that the optical media technology provides. "They can review a shot instantly and then quickly return to record mode," he said.
Laird also said that the producers no longer have to juggle piles of tapes in the field. The XDCAM disks hold 23GB of data.
