KGO-TV Goes HD in San Francisco
KGO-TV last weekend became the second broadcaster to begin offering its local news in HD in the San Francisco market, the nation's fifth largest (following KTVU-TV, the Fox affiliate in nearby Oakland). KGO, an ABC owned and operated outlet, will air its local content in 720p--the same format as its network and other local ABC outlets (except in Dallas).
The broadcaster's daily newscasts will include ENG HD aerial camera coverage from the station's news helicopters, according to TV Predictions, a practice that actually began a year ago.
The number of local stations airing their news in an HD format nationally appears to be approaching three dozen, mostly in large and major markets.
