KIRO-TV is On-Air in 5.1 Sound with Neural Audio
Neural Audio recently helped KIRO in Seattle go on-air in 5.1 surround sound with its NueStar 5225 downmixer and multimerge transcoder.
The CBS affiliate can now pass network 5.1 through its facility on its existing two-channel infrastructure.
"Interoperability is a necessity for today's broadcaster, and it is critical for affiliate stations built for two-channel delivery to stay in their market," said Geir R. Skaaden, CEO of the Kirkland, Wash.-based company.
The Neural 5225 "watermarks" the 5.1 audio to a stereo channel to be edited, stored and merged with local content such as voiceovers. The multimerge transcodes and merges sources to bridge the typical 2.0 and 5.1 interface and interoperability challenges that neural networks categorize as spatial "type;" mono, stereo, matrix stereo or discrete 5.1.
