KRNV-TV uses RF Central technology for New Year’s Eve telecast
KRNV-TV of Reno, NV, used two RF Central CMT-II COFDM camera-mounted transmitters to broadcast live HDTV celebrations to viewers on New Year’s Eve.
Cameras were deployed on top of the 24-floor Circus Circus casino and hotel where they were responsible for capturing KRNV’s two-member anchor team and the fireworks show that ignited over the city. As cameras roved throughout the street for crowd coverage, their signals were transmitted to the receivers located on top of the casino, then mixed and switched into the live broadcast.
Events of this size and scope typically present tremendous cabling and infrastructure challenges. However, the station said the RF Central technology, with embedded audio, made such logistical issues a thing of the past.
The roving cameras were able to move freely among crowds and at various locations without losing a single pixel throughout the broadcast, even in cases where the station was out of “line of sight” to the receivers.
