KTRK-TV installs Megawatt weather radar
KTRK-TV, the ABC O&O in Houston, has implemented a Baron Services Megawatt VHDD-1000C weather radar system.
In 1999, the station purchased a 250,000W radar system from Baron Services, and turned to the company again when it was time to take the next step in Doppler analysis. Installation of the new Megawatt radar took about one week.
With 1 million watts of power, KTRK will be able to track storms with a precision and accuracy like never before. At its highest scanning speed, the Megawatt will deliver a fresh, full scan of the atmosphere every 10 seconds. With 256 levels of color provided by Doppler processing, viewers and meteorologists will better understand the intensity of precipitation moving through the area. The radar, coupled with Baron’s VIPIR weather system, will allow KTRK meteorologists to view storms in a 3-D environment and analyze them from every angle live.
