KTVK to kick off local HD newcasts this month
KTVK, the Belo-owned independent station in Phoenix, plans to begin producing 51 hours of local news per week in HD beginning April 26.
According to Belo, the volume of HD news per week will be greater than that produced by any other station in the country. Part of its HD newscast total is a daily newscast during the week on sister station KMSB in Tucson, which will be broadcast in HD. Cordillera Communications-owned KVOA-TV in Tucson will launch HD newscasts this spring as well. (See: “KVOA to launch local newscast in HD.”)
To bring HD newscasts to Phoenix viewers, KTVK invested in two new studios, a new Vizrt graphics system and a unique music package. The station has added new HD studio cameras and acquired an HD camera system for its news helicopter.
Cox Cable will air KTVK in HD on its digital tier.
