KWWL in Waterloo, Iowa announced this week that the station will soon begin construction on a new facility that will allow the station to broadcast local news in HD.
Construction is expected to be completed in March, with the inaugural broadcast in April. Updates to the facility will also allow for a new visual look and feel to KWWL’s newscasts, including HD weather maps and graphics.
“It’s a momentous event.” Said Kim Leer, Station Manager at KWWL. “Every day, more and more of our viewers tune in to KWWL using high-definition televisions. Our newscasts will now take advantage of that technology, and have a newscast that fills their screen, as long as they are viewing us via antenna, or with high-definition cable or satellite service.”
Waterloo, Iowa is in DMA#88. KWWL, an NBC affiliate, is owned by QNI and is the first station in the group to launch HD news.
