The new L.A. Live sports and entertainment complex in downtown Los Angeles is now installing a multinode MediorNet fiber-optic system from Riedel Communications to provide an integrated signal transport and routing solution for the complex, which includes the L.A. Live broadcast facility, Club Nokia, Nokia Theater and the Staples Center Arena.
IPR Services, the systems integrator for the L.A. Live facility, ordered eight Riedel MediorNet frames, which combine signal transport, routing and signal processing and conversion in one integrated, real-time network for uncompressed, multichannel HD/SD video, audio, intercom and data. The MediorNet solution can transport up to 153GB/s on a single fiber link, with each mainframe providing routing capacity for 32 x 32 720p/1080i signals, 184 x 184 SD-SDI signals, 27,000 x 27,000 AES signals or any combination of these.
Installing the MediorNet system will reduce cabling and installation costs while providing a flexible means of routing signals for internal and broadcast usage. The built-in video scalers and multiviewer functions add further value. Because it uses software-based signal conversion, the system can grow without hardware replacements, according to Robert Patrick, VP of IPR Services.
As part of the L.A. Live installation, IPR Services also ordered a comprehensive Riedel Artist digital matrix intercom, which contains four Artist mainframes connected via a redundant dual fiber-optic ring. This provides a distributed matrix throughout the facility.
