‘Larger Than Life in 3D’ shot with Fujinon lenses
“Larger Than Life in 3D,” a new concert film that features performances from Dave Matthews Band, Ben Harper and Relentless7 and Gogol Bordello, ran in theaters for a one-week engagement that began Dec. 11. The 3-D concert film was shot with a combination of various 3-D rigs using 2/3in HD cameras fitted with a pair of Fujinon HA42x9.7BE lenses. Three pairs of Fujinon HA22x7.8BE lenses and one pair of HA16x6.3BE lenses were also used during the production.
The 3-D feature was produced by Action 3D Productions. “When shooting 3-D, it is critical for zoom lenses to match optically and track together,” said Wayne Miller, president of Action 3D Productions. “We found the Fujinon lenses tracked well for us during all of our productions.”
Miller was particularly impressed with the 42x lenses. “We used a pair of 42x lenses with great success,” Miller said. “The long end of the 42x gave us crisp and beautiful images. The stereo images from the 42x’s pair in the final cut is excellent, taken from camera positions far from the stage. The successful use of this extreme telephoto lens at our concert venues put it on our list of essential 3-D production tools.”
