LCD Prices Could Fall 20 Percent by Year's End
LCD displays, most of which are HD, will experience a drop in price points by about 20 percent by the end of 2009, and the price gap between mid-large-sized TV panels will also decrease.
The research suggests that the typical price for a 37-inch LCD HD unit will fall to about $500 by the end of this calendar year—compared to $670 at the end of 2008. Lower end 32-inch LCD models, the report projects, will drop to an average price of less than $400.
Entry-level 42-inch HD panels (likely not 1080p) will see a price decline to about $580 by this year's holiday sales season, and DigiTimes, an Asian Web site, says its sources predict "steep price declines" for basic 42-inch LCD models that will turn the units into the "market mainstream" by 2012.
