Leitch forms systems engineering group

Leitch has established a new systems integration division called Leitch Systems Engineering group and has tapped Brian Cabeceiras, formerly with SeaChange International, to run it as vice president.

Cabeceiras will work with third-party systems integrators to market Leitch’s productivity message via products that enable an Integrated Content Environment for applications in post production, newsrooms, master control and the processing, storage and management of content.

Prior to joining Leitch, Cabeceiras served as president of SeaChange’s broadcast server division. He also spent seven years with Grass Valley Group/Tektronix and seven years with Sony Broadcast, where he held a number of senior management positions, including director of each company's systems business.

Cabeceiras said his primary responsibility will be to expand Leitch's capability beyond basic product interoperability into consultative services and partnering opportunities for systems installation and support.

Leitch also announced that it has been chosen by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., (parent to Panasonic) to supply its new Panacea compact routing switchers and 6800+ modular products for broadcast coverage of the 2004 Athens Summer Games in Athens, Greece. The routers will be installed in the International Broadcast Center, which will also feature a wide range of Panasonic production equipment.

Along with the Panacea routing switchers and 6800+ infrastructure products, Leitch will also provide its MediaFile clip and still store system for the upcoming Athens Olympic Games.
