LG Engages MPEG-4 for Hotel HD
LG Electronics' new series of 42-, 37- and 32-inch LCD HD monitors geared to the lodging industry are built around the MPEG-4 H.264 technology standard. The advanced coding system, among other things, will enable delivery of far more HD channels in the same bandwidth.
In addition to both MPEG-4 and MPEG-2 compression, LG said the new HD sets incorporate the first digital rights management (DRM) system developed specifically for the lodging industry, Pro:Idiom.
LG's hotel LCD flatscreens (models 42LC5DC, 37LC5DC and 32LC5DC) will include 1366 x 768 capabilities, 500 cd/m2 brightness, and 1600:1 contrast ratio. The firm said the units will include its fifth-generation ATSC/QAM/NTSC tuner/demodulator, along with Dolby Digital and its proprietary 3D EchoSound.
