LIN TV Launched on BlackBerry Devices
PROVIDENCE,R.I.: LIN TV Corp extended its mobile TV offering to BlackBerry devices. LIN (NYSE: LIN) said it leveraged technology from News Over Wireless to develop custom BlackBerry smartphone applications for each of its 27 local TV stations. LIN already started developing a customized NOW app for iPhones.
Six LIN TV stations launched the BlackBerry service last week, including WISH-TV, WAVY-TV, KRQE-TV, WANE-TV, WALA-TV and KXAN-TV. LIN has been among the more aggressive broadcasters in the deployment of its content over nontraditional platforms.
“Launching an application for BlackBerry is the natural next step in the evolution of LIN TV’s mobile business and will further our strategy to engage viewers any time of day and across any platform they may be viewing,” said LIN TV’s Senior Vice President New Media Robb Richter.
