Maine Energy Efficiency Act Includes DTV Set-top Boxes
MaineToday.com carried an article Thursday about a bill being considered by a Maine legislative committee that would set energy efficiency standards for several products, including "digital television adapters." Suzanne Goucher, president and CEO of the Maine Association of Broadcasters, said these adapters would be necessary for some consumers when all TV stations switch from analog to digital. The Association opposes the part of the bill that applies to these devices. The article includes this quote from Suzanne Goucher, "To hamper electronics manufacturers at this time, when the digital conversion is ongoing, would be an enormous hindrance on that industry, and could result in a loss of confidence among Mainers about the digital TV transition."
