MLB.com, the Major League Baseball Web site, has launched At Bat 2009, an updated live baseball application for Apple’s iPhone and iTouch portable computing devices.
The application, which costs $9.99 and is available for download from Apple’s App Store, now offers MLB.com game-day audio covering every regular and postseason game live. Users can listen to either the home or visiting team’s announcers, and the audio feeds began April 6.
At Bat also gives users access to video previews and highlights, plus pitch-by-pitch calls, game summaries and up-to-date box scores. It includes the complete postseason, World Series and off season video coverage.
In addition to the paid version, MLB is also offering a free application that features a real-time scoreboard. It also includes game-day features for 2009 spring training and the World Baseball Classic.
At Bat automatically detects the connection type and will provide a high-quality WiFi clip or standard-quality clip on the AT&T network. According to MLB.com, iPhone applications are unable to tell the difference between EDGE and 3G networks, so all users on the AT&T network will receive a stream optimized for EDGE.
