Martin Seeks Fines for DTV Violations by Retailers, Manufacturers
FCC Chairman Kevin J. Martin said Thursday the commission is working on an order that would propose 24 fines against large consumer electronics retailers and manufacturers for DTV violations.
Martin said he hopes he will have the support of at least two other commissioners by the commission’s April 10 meeting.
Best Buy, Circuit City, CompUSA, Sears, Target, Toys R Us and WalMart were all among the companies with fiens proposed for failure to properly label analog-only devices.
Audiovox, LG, Sanyo, Panasonic, Philips, Polaroid and Westinghouse are all facing fines for V-Chip violation in products.
Martin did not say how much the proposed fines would be.
Another manufacturer, Precor, has a pending “notice of apparent liability” on a tuner violation, but that order has not been circulated among the commissioners.
