Masters Swing 'Largest HDTV Production Ever'
The Augusta National Golf Club and CBS Sports are bringing the 2003 Master Tournament to viewers in HD, April 10-13. The production will use 42 HD cameras and 10 hand-held 16:9 SD cameras, in what CBS Sports is touting as "the largest HDTV production ever."
Produced in 1080i and downconverted for the networks' analog broadcast, the 2003 event marks a return to HD coverage of the Masters for the first time since 2000, when it was the first golf tournament presented live in HD on network television. The Masters has experimented with hi-def since 1993.
The Masters show on CBS Television HD Network on April 10 and 11 from 4:00-6:30 p.m., April 12 from 3:30-6:30 p.m. and April 13 from 2:30-7:00 p.m. live from the Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. CBS Sports will broadcast the third and final rounds of the Masters simultaneously in SD on the analog CBS TV network.
