Media Bureau grants Liberty Media subsidiary continuing waiver
On April 6, the FCC Media Bureau Video Division granted a request from Liberty Media subsidiary LMC BET Holdings for a continuing waiver to allow it to operate WJMN-TV in Escanaba, MI, without a main studio, but rather using the main studio of WFRV-TV in Green Bay, WI.
Liberty submitted the waiver request in connection with its pending application to acquire control of WFRV and WJMN from CBS.
Since 1969, WJMN-TV has operated as a satellite station of WFRV-TV without its own main studio. In 1991 and again in 1995, the commission approved its continuing satellite status. In 2000, the commission granted an assignment of the station’s license and waiver of the main studio rule because of the small size of the Escanaba market. Additionally, the commission agreed it was not economically viable to maintain a main studio in the community.
The Video Division noted that granting the waiver meets the “needs and interest of Escanaba, even without a main studio.”
