Mediterranean: HD Trials Underway in Malta
Cable subs who applied to participate in an HD trial this summer on the island nation of Malta are now getting their HD set-top boxes installed for initial HD transmissions from Melita, a cable firm that will be the major provider of HD for Malta’s various islands. Melita said its formal ramp up of HD channels is scheduled for December.
During the ongoing trial run, participating HD subscribers will help troubleshoot any problems that may arise from initial testing, as well as create some buzz for the HD service, according to the Malta Independent.
In addition to growing its sports menu from current offerings that include the Premier League for soccer, along with a handful of other services, HD subs will have access to National Geographic Channel HD and History Channel HD.
The Maltese archipelago includes primarily the three main islands of Malta, Gozo and Comino. It’s among the smallest of the European Union nations and is located south of Sicily between Europe and North Africa.
