Miami’s WSVN-TV Goes Local in HD
WSVN-TV, which serves portions of southern Florida including the Miami-Ft. Lauderdale market (DMA no. 16), transitioned its local news and public affairs programming to 720p transmissions last weekend (Jan. 11).
The Fox affiliate is at least the second English-speaking station in the region to convert its local newscasts to HD, according to the Miami Herald. NBC’s affiliate, WTVJ-TV, transitioned to HD newscasts (1080i) several months ago.
WSVN-TV (“Channel 7”) is owned by Sunbeam Television, which is based in Miami and owns a total of three stations.
There are now likely more than 140 local stations that have gone local HD for their news and other community content.
