Mid-Atlantic stations complete inventory phase of 2GHz relocation plan
Sprint Nextel announced in mid-November that all of the station inventories needed to execute the 2GHz relocation plan in the Mid-Atlantic region have been submitted.
The company and broadcasters face a Sept. 7, 2007, deadline to complete the relocation of Broadcast Auxiliary Service (BAS) licensees using analog BAS channel 1-7 at 1990MHz-2110MHz to 12MHz-wide digital channels between 2025MHz-2110MHz.
The inventories specify the microwave transmission and associated equipment in use for BAS operations that must be replaced. As part of a deal with the FCC to attain additional spectrum for wireless service, Sprint Nextel is obliged to reimburse stations for the cost of new equipment and the labor to install it.
Sprint has divided the country into eight regions for the project. The Mid-Atlantic region becomes the second in which all broadcasters affected by the plan have submitted their inventories. In October, the West region became the first.
