Among a number of new products, Miranda exhibited a camera-mounted combo HD downconverter and DV encoder for Sony HDCAM, Panasonic VariCam, and Ikegami high-definition video cameras. The technology was previously available for analog cameras.
The DVC-800 downconverter/encoder mounts between the camera and its battery. It is designed to simplify HD acquisition monitoring, rough-cut DV editing, and the on-site preparation of dailies. The device adds less than an inch to the overall length of the cameras and has minimal impact on battery life.
Multiple monitoring outputs include HD-SDI, SDI, composite and DV/IEEE 1394. The DV output allows the camera to be plugged directly into a laptop/DV editing system or a DV portable drive. The HD-SDI, SD and DV outputs include embedded audio and timecode. A built-in aspect ratio converter allows 16:9 material to be viewed easily on 4:3 monitors.
The DVC-800's timecode burn-in, graticule markers, and on-screen display of metadata information — such as scene, take, and reel number — allow anyone on set to see the full picture at all times. A DV loopback feature also simplifies the reviewing and on-site approval of material.
The DVC-800 handles a full range of HD formats, including 1080i, 1080p, and 720p formats, at all the popular frame rates, including 23.98PsF, 24PsF, 25PsF, 29.97PsF, 50i, and 59.94i.
