More Twittering Nonsense

published VANCOUVER, B.C.: Canadian artist Jer Thorp is creating an animated 3D travel log from a data set derived from Twitter. Thorp’s algorithm seeks certain phrases within the stream-of-(un)consciousness blurts that comprise Twitter. Thorp combed out tweets containing “just landed in…” or “just arrive in…,” and ran them through a location-finding API. Home-base information for users was scrapped from their Twitter pages. The data is then combined to on an animated 3D world map that shows the flight paths of traveling Twitterers. The work, posted at Vimeo.com, is ongoing.
