Motorola mobile phone displays full-length movies
Motorola has developed a mobile phone with a full-motion video display capable of playing feature films from tiny removable storage cards.
Motorola CEO Ed Zander, speaking last week at the Software 2007 conference in Silicon Valley, described the phone as one of the several devices the company plans to announce at an event this week.
The phone is capable of showing 30fps video. Initially, the phone will be targeted at the European market, where faster, 3G networks are more widely available.
Zander said Motorola has partnered with another (unnamed) company that can fit feature-length movies on Secure Digital cards capable of storing several gigabytes of data.
The Asia Pacific region is the stronghold of mobile video subscribers, where markets like Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong held 57 percent of the world total in 2006, Reuters reported.
