MyNetwork TV Selects Tandberg Television
MyNetworkTV, a new primetime television network, has chosen Tandberg Television to provide HD and SD MPEG-2 encoding solutions for its launch this week.
At its network origination center in Los Angeles, MyNetworkTV has deployed Tandberg Television's E5710 and E5780 MPEG-2 SD and HD encoders, MX5620 multiplexers and Director v5 network management and receiver control system. Each of the networks' 167 affiliates, depending on its use of either the SD or HD feed, deployed a TT1260 MPEG-2 SD or TT1280 MPEG-2 HD professional receiver.
The Tandberg Television Director system manages encoding systems at the point of program origination via Tandberg nCompass Control, and it remotely controls and manages up to 50,000 receivers in the field. The capabilities of Director enable broadcasters to schedule programming or entitlement changes in advance, download new software to receivers over the air, or securely encrypt the content being distributed and individually or by group entitle receivers to view the content.
"Tandberg Television is pleased to have been chosen to provide the video and audio distribution system for the launch of MyNetworkTV in the U.S.," said Lisa Hobbs, senior director of business development at Tandberg Television. "Our comprehensive range of encoding and receiving solutions, designed with the rigors of 24-hour-a-day broadcasting in mind, has made us the leading choice for U.S. broadcasters today."
