NAB adds to DTV list
Last week the NAB added 26 local broadcasters to its list of television stations transmitting a digital signal, bringing the current total number to 1,155. Of the new DTV stations, 16 are commercial and 10 are members of the Public Broadcast Service (PBS).
The NAB, which represents commercial and public broadcasters nationwide, said DTV stations on-the-air are now available with an over the air antenna in 203 markets that serve 99.42% of US TV Households.
The new commercial stations include: WPGA, in Macon, GA (DMA# 122); WNYT, in Albany, N.Y. (DMA# 55); KPVI, in Pocatello, Idaho (WMA# 165); KINC, in Las Vegas, Nev. (DMA# 52); WHCP, in Dayton, Ohio (DMA# 58); KVMD, in Twentynine Palms, CA (DMA# 2); KNXT, in Fresno, CA (DMA# 57); KWTV, in Oklahoma City, Okla. (DMA# 45); KAYU, in Spokane, WA. (DMA# 79); KFFX, in Yakima, WA (DMA# 127); KMVU, in Medford, ORE (DMA# 141); WRSP, in Champaign, ILL. (DMA# 82); WICZ, in Binghamton, N.Y. (DMA# 154); KZTV, in Corpus Christi, TX (DMA# 128); KVTV, in Laredo, TX (DMA# 192); and KSGW, in Sheridan, WY. (DMA# 175).
The new PBS member stations now on-the-air in DTV are: WNPB, in Morgantown, W.V. (DMA# 166); WLJT, in Jackson, Tenn. (DMA# 183); WMHT, in Schenectady, N.Y. (DMA# 55); KCSD, in Sioux Falls, S.D. (DMA# 112); WSKG, in Binghamton, N.Y. (DMA# 154); WKAR, in East Lansing, MI. (DMA# 111); WOSU, in Columbus, Ohio (DMA# 34); KDSE, in Dickinson, N.D. (DMA# 155); KJRE, in Ellendale, N.D. (DMA# 118); and KSRE, in Minot, N.D. (DMA# 155).
The NAB said 84.42% of the more than 106 million U.S. TV households are in markets with five or more broadcasters airing DTV and 60.86% are in markets with eight or more broadcasters sending digital signals.
In addition, there are 27 markets in which all of the local stations are now on-the-air in DTV. PBS member station WLJT is the first digital station available to viewers in the Jackson, TN market.
