NAB and NCTA representatives have agreed to meet to discuss their differences over must-carry issues.
The NAB’s president, Eddie Fritz, proposed the meeting and the NCTA’s president, Robert Sachs, accepted. However, there were no indications that the meetings signal a thaw between the trade groups.
The broadcasters want the FCC to require cable systems to carry all of a television station’s digital programming — meaning any and all services the broadcaster chooses to air.
Cable says it will carry nothing more than the primary channel it already is forced to carry. To demand more, said the NCTA, would mean bumping cable channels in favor of the broadcasters' channels.
