NAB Contributing $750,000 to Open Mobile Video Coalition
The future of broadcast may be with mobile viewers, and NAB showed how seriously it takes that frontier with a $750,000 contribution to the Open Mobile Video Coalition, which aims to promote the development of mobile DTV.
The OMVC represents 422 commercial TV stations and 361 public stations. At NAB’s June meeting, its Television Board of Directors unanimously passed a motion to actively support the efforts of the OMVC.
“Accelerating the development and implementation of mobile digital broadcast television is crucial to the future of broadcast TV and will provide viewers with an additional platform to receive our high-value content,” said Ion Media Networks President and CEO Brandon Burgess, who is leading the effort.
NAB decided on the funding at its October board meeting.
